To find your age in years, months and days, you need a birth date and a reference date. Simply dividing the number of elapsed days by 365 produces an approximation: calendar years vary in length and months do not all contain the same number of days. For a calendar-age answer, calculate completed years first, then completed months, then the days that remain.

The Sikelia Tools age calculator performs this calendar calculation in your browser. It shows age in years, months and days, total elapsed days, full weeks, the weekday on which you were born, and the date of your next birthday. It also displays hour and minute calendar-day equivalents, which must not be mistaken for an exact time-of-birth calculation.

Calculate your age step by step

  1. Open the calculator from the button on this article.
  2. Enter your birth date in the first field.
  3. Leave the reference date at today’s date, or select a different date for a historical comparison.
  4. Read the completed years, months and remaining days. The calculator rejects a reference date before the birth date.
  5. Look below the age result for total elapsed days, full weeks and days until the next birthday.

If you need only the difference between two unrelated dates, use a date-duration calculator rather than treating the first date as somebody’s birthday.

Worked example: January 1, 2000 to April 1, 2026

Someone born on January 1, 2000 is 26 years, 3 months and 0 days old on April 1, 2026. The 26 completed years take us to January 1, 2026; another three completed months take us to April 1. There are no remaining days.

Changing the reference date from April 1 to April 2 adds one calendar day to the result. That is different from using a fixed month length such as 30 days, which would produce incorrect results for many other date pairs.

The total-days and full-weeks figures answer a different question from years and months. They count elapsed calendar days and complete blocks of seven days, not the number of anniversaries or calendar months.

What happens on a leap-day birthday?

February 29 does not appear every year. Different calculators and legal systems can apply different anniversary conventions in non-leap years. Sikelia’s current age-calculation rule uses February 28 as the anniversary of a February 29 birth in a non-leap year; the interface explicitly states this convention.

For official eligibility, legal documents or benefits, follow the rules of the responsible authority. An online age calculation is a practical calendar reference, not a legal ruling.

Is an age in hours or minutes exact?

Not if you entered only two calendar dates. The calculator also multiplies elapsed days into hours or minutes as calendar-day equivalents. It has no record of your birth hour, time zone at birth or daylight-saving transitions.

That distinction matters when a form requires a precise timestamp. For ordinary birthday planning and calendar ages, years, months and days are usually the relevant values.

Common questions

Can I calculate my age on a past date?

Yes. Set the reference date to any date that is on or after your birth date. This is useful for checking how old you were at an event.

Can I use the calculator on my phone?

The browser-based age calculator is available on mobile as well as desktop. There is no account required to perform the calculation.

Does the result show my next birthday?

Yes. Alongside your age and elapsed days, you can see the next birthday date and how many calendar days remain.

Try it now: open the free Sikelia Tools age calculator, choose both dates and compare the calendar age with the total elapsed days.
